Lihir gives workers’ children a feel of gold

CHILDREN of the Lihir International Primary School went on a tour of the Lihir gold operation in New Ireland recently.
The Lihir operation and the school organised the mine tour for the 56 students, teachers and parents.
Most of the students are children of Newcrest employees and business partners who live in Lihir.
Visiting their parents’ work environment for the first time encouraged the students to learn as much as they could.
The Lihir operation management described the tour as a great way to inspire Lihir students to take up vocations in mining.
Year 3 pupil Madeline Gunnell said she enjoyed looking at, feeling and holding crystals and rocks in the training room.
Prep Teacher Melody Watkins said the tour was a great educational insight into mining.
