THE Lihir Island community health programme has been described as a great achievement after only two years of its implementation.

The progamme had been a great achievement by a team of individuals who endured tough conditions to do what they did in improving the health of the people of Lihir.

The team of 12 staff had accepted the challenge to make things happen by putting up with the unexpected to do what they did and this had been placed on record by programme director Dr Jethro Usurup.

Usurup thanked the staff and informed them about reports from independent sources on what they had done.

He said the staff and their partners and those who had contributed to the achievement should be congratulated for a job well done.

Programme manager Geoff Scahill also commended the staff for their spirit in moving forward to enhance the delivery of health services on the island.

Scahill told the staff that what they had done during the past two years had empowered other people to take responsibility for improving their health.
