Thirty junior AFL players from Kavieng will be travelling to Lihir Island for the AFL Lihir Challenge.
The players are from the AFLPNG development programme in Kavieng.
AFL Kavieng selected the 30 juniors to compete in the third Newcrest-sponsored AFL carnival this weekend.  AFLPNG Kavieng senior development officer Herman Bubu said his juniors athletes were training to play against students from Lihir International School.
The Kavieng squad comprises 11 to 13-year olds.
Two of the players, Hison Kapin and Kevin Chan, are on the AFLPNG Binatangs junior train-on squad, who will travel to Queensland for the Under-14 State Championships later this year.
Bubu acknowledged the New Ireland Provincial Government, through law and order sector chief executive officer Bill Peruwan for supporting their trip and Michael Bamden for organising the event.
