Limestone deposit pure enough for cement

The limestone deposit at Elimbari in Chauve, Chimbu, is 95 per cent pure and is convenient to produce cement, says Chuave MP Wera Mori.
He said limestone had better economic value that could not be missed, therefore, he would do all he could to develop the resource for his people and his district.
Mori said his Chuave district development authority would spearhead to develop a limestone facility at Goiri.
He said limestone mining would soon start in an area with a 50-year mine life and 57.2 million tonne resource.
Laboratory tests had shown Chimbu limestone to be more than 99 per cent pure for making cement, according to geologist Kon Digan’s earlier feasibility study report.
Mori thanked Digan for carrying out initial feasibility studies and establishing an office in Kundiawa for the project with government support.
He said Chuave would source help from government and stakeholders to develop the project.
The MP said it was a vital project that would benefit his people in the long run, saying he would do all he could to develop it.
