Limestone project challenges

Letters

I RESPOND to the comment by Rombira Blacks 4weiz, of Siane Hipa, about the ownership of the limestone project as published in The National on Wednesday (Oct 3).
The National Executive Council (NEC) special meeting decision No: 81/2014 spells out clearly that the Department of Commerce and Industry will be in charge of any implementation of the Chuave Lime and Cement project and engage basic engineering to assist with this technical feasibility study, including engineering, design service, etc.
They have invited the Simbu provincial government to take the lead to drive the project.
We, the people of the Duma and Mam tribes, have not confidence in the SPG to drive this project because in 2016, a PSIP funding of K5 million was allocated to the project but nothing happened.
The project sanctioned by the national Government. It is only fair that Simbu provincial government and Chuave district development authority put their share in as equity and partner with the national Government to deliver this project for the good of our people.
ILG survey and social mapping is an important exercise and the project steering committee should engage qualified, credible people to use GPS technology to ensure the work is done accurately.
Chimbu Governor Michael Dua should ask the police to investigate how the K5 million was spent.
Let the Department of Commerce and Industry continue to take the lead, under the wisdom of project steering committees, and let us all work together to support them in the name of Simbu Limestone Project.
