Ten line managers from Ramu NiCo Management (MCC) Ltd recently completed a Nebosh international general certification (ICG) safety training.
The two-week safety training was conducted by Patric MacLoughlin, a health safety and environment (HSE) training specialist from the United Kingdom.
The line managers were from MCC’s Kurumbukari mine and the Basamuk processing plant.
The company said in a statement that the IGC training was “to systematically improve the occupational safety and health management skills of line managers so as to how to have a better management of health and safety in the workplace on both sites”.
“The Nebosh national general certificate (NGC) in occupational health and safety is a foundation level-three certification training and the most-popular health and safety qualification in the United Kingdom,” it said.
“It introduced the participants to the principles of risk management and how to incorporate them into day-to-day decisions.”
MacLoughlin is a professional HSE consultant, with over 32 years’ experience in many differing spheres including mechanical engineering, chemical processing, construction and oil and gas exploration and production.
He has been providing technical support/consultancy and delivering accredited and non-accredited training to various oil and gas, (up and downstream), and chemical/pharmaceutical companies for over 20 years.
MCC said the training was successful and a qualification would be issued after the training examination.
The company said it was “committed to developing high standard safety and health management, and supply comfortable and safe working environment for all the employees”.
It said as the only mine project operating currently in Madang, the company had operated safely for the last 10 years. MCC said as a company, it was liable to comply with all legal requirements and safety regulations in the country.
It said it had devoted itself to maintain its good organisational reputation in terms of vibrant environment and safety management.
