Ling-Stuckey: Tourism included in package

TREASURER Ian Ling-Stuckey says the Government has identified funds in the economic stimulus package to assist the tourism industry.
He did not reveal the amount but said tourism had been overlooked when budgets were put together.
“Tourism is a serious economic portfolio unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be always represented when putting together a budget.”
He made the statement during a handover ceremony of the tourism ministry from outgoing minister Emil Tammur to Walter Schnaubelt on Tuesday.
Tammur said the industry needed about K70 million.
He said the coronavirus had badly impacted the industry and needed support to get it back on the ground.
He said the hospitality industry had been hit hard. Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Tourism Kennedy Wenge said tourism was all about taking ownership of the resources.
He said the government was focused on agriculture and tourism.
“Agriculture is based on export and import while tourism is a ‘hand purse’ industry meaning tourists bring money in and it remains in the country,” Wenge said.

  • Tourists will come to Papua New Guinea, only if we Papua New Guineans create a PEACEFUL PAPUA NEW GUINEA, AND A CLEAN PAPUA NEW GUINEA. God has Blessed this country with multiple natural resources, unlike other countries in the world. Beautiful Country with exotic natural environments that Tourists will enjoy. It is up to all of us Papua New Guineans, to change our attitudes as a Christian Nation to make PNG a Tourist Destination.
