Liquor ban begins in WHP, Jiwaka

ALL liquor outlets and lodges in Western Highlands and Jiwaka will stop selling alcohol from today, according to the provincial liquor licensing board.
Police, supported by defence force personnel, are enforcing the ban.
In their first operation yesterday, a container was confiscated in Minj, Jiwaka, and is with police.
Interim chairman of the provincial liquor licensing board Ben Laki said the alcohol ban was issued on Dec 23 last year. But the board had allowed liquor outlets to clear their stock up to yesterday.
The ban was imposed to cut down on associated criminal activities in these areas during the election period.
