NATIONAL Department of Education is a funding source of basic education throughout the country under the National Literacy and Awareness Secretariat (NLAS).

NLAS Office of Libraries and Archives director Willie Emmanuel Jonduo said three programmes in East Sepik had been funded under the NLAS.

Jonduo said the three programmes included the Catholic Women Association of the East Sepik diocese, Yamben Adult Literacy in the inland Turubu area and Yehimbolie Adult Literacy in the East Yangoru area.

Total of K42,000 has been allocated to fund these programmes with the ESP Catholic Women awarded K20,000; Yamben Adult Literacy K8,000 and the Yehimbolie Adult Literacy K14,000.

“ESP Catholic women also received another K47,000 funding from Australian aid,” Jonduo said.

He says the funding received by the Yehimbolie Adult Literacy is from the Australian Aid while the Yamben Adult literacy and K20,000 for Catholic Women came from the Education Department.

“These programmes will be accessed and monitored by the NLAS,” Jonduo said.

He said the NLAS would want to see that the funds were acquitted and quality reports sent to the office of NLAS.
