HARD work and determination has paid off for 13 students as they graduated with flying colours from the Anglicare literacy programme in Port Moresby.
The students are now ready to further their education in flexible open and distance education (FODE) and vocational schools.
They graduate with full capacity to enrol in FODE and vocational schools for further studies while 40 students will be graduating in basic Tok Pisin.
The aim and goal of the Anglicare literacy programme is to provide quality education that empowers the illiterates and semi–illiterates to contribute meaningfully to their families, communities and the country.
In her speech to the graduates, Anglicare national director Heni Meke said she was really encouraged to see all the students at the graduation.
“Learning doesn’t stop here, it is not for a certain group but for both young and old,” she said.
She challenged the graduates to “take it (learning) and move it to the next level, don’t give up”.
Programme coordinator Bernard Paru said an evaluation for all training done so far would be carried out next year.
