CORRECTIONAL Service Commissioner Michael Waipo says a break-in into the Bomana Training College armoury and the removal of weapons by prison officers are putting the lives of people at risk.
Waipo said CS officers at Bomana in Port Moresby forced open the armory and removed ammunitions.
He said the incident happened because of speculations that there would be a change in the CS Commissioner’s position. “The decision to appoint a commissioner is the prerogative of the Government and National Executive Council.”
He said those who broke into the armoury were rogue officers who acted on behalf of certain elements in the CS who were against the current management. \
Waipo said it had put his life, his family’s lives and those involved at risk. He said CS officers were supposed to manage institutions and maintain order and discipline and not abuse Government properties. Waipo is currently under guard by CS officers.
Meanwhile, college firearm instructor and armourer Major Sarto Ephraim said the armoury was last accessed last Monday.
