TWENTY-year-old Charles Livian clocked 11.02 seconds to win gold in the men’s 100m sprint for East New Britain yesterday at the Muthuvel Stadium in Kimbe.
Livian, who is also a PNG representative, told The National that he was using the PNG Games as a lead up for the Mini Pacific Games in Vanuatu next month.
Finishing behind Livian was Morobe’s Kupun Wisil who clocked 11.20 seconds and Linus Kuravi of West New Britain clocking in 11.22 seconds.
“I’ve been taking part actively in athletics for about four years and this is my second PNG Games; the first one was the last
PNG Games in Lae in 2014,” Livian said.
“I was happy with myself, I didn’t expect it but I did all the hard work in training. I owe this win to the good Lord above, my coaching staff for their hard work in supporting me.
“I’ll be representing the country in the Mini Pacific Games and it’s going to be my third time to represent PNG.”
In the women’s 100m final, West New Britain’s Lyenne Nilmo gave the home crowd something to cheer about finishing first to claim gold and clocking in 12.46.
