A PERMITTED Elementary School run by the New Testament Church on Mushu Island, Wewak, East Sepik, has received the  K5,000 from Wewak Island local level government.

Wewak Island LLG president Pius Bugatar gave the money last Friday to complement efforts by the church in providing an internationally-accredited early childhood education which sets the foundation for the children’s learning process.

“The current elementary school system we have in the country will be phased out as per the national government decision.

“Private schools like the one you are running will not be affected. Your curriculum captures everything for early childhood learning and I am pleased to note that after graduating from this school, children will go straight to Grade 3.

“This private institution is worthy because it adds value to our education system by providing the foundation for primary, secondary and tertiary learning for our children,” Bugatar said.

School principal Sr Christina Leung said the school had received no support from the government in the past three years of operation and was grateful that the local level government had recognised its potential.

Leung said the school needed a library for its students to help with their reading and comprehension.

Bugatar said he would raise their need with the firm Oxford’s country manager when he met him on May 6.
