PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill is scheduled to sign in the new Port Moresby Rugby League Trustee Board at 1.30 pm today.

This was made known by the Sports and Pacific Games Minister Justin Tkatchenko to the media yesterday in Port Moresby.

Tkatchenko (pictured) said the board of trustees will be directly responsible for the management and maintenance of the facility and oversee the development of the venue for the 2015 Pacific Games.

He said the PRL Trustee Board would include representatives from project funder Oil Search and other sports personnel as approval by the Government to move forward. It is understood at least one member of the PRL executive will be on the board.

“This is historical as the Government is taking ownership of the facility and wants to develop it,” Tkatchenko said.

He said a brand new stadium is in the pipeline for PNG’s Bid for National Rugby League and Queensland Intrust Cup.

The National understands that Bank South Pacific wrote off previous debt clearing the way for the new board to start with a clean slate.

This is good news for the rugby league fraternity in Port Moresby and also PNG for the a board of trustees to manage the facilities transparently and with a high degree of accountability and professionalism.
