THREE candidates have been chosen to participate in the first PNG LNG project environmental internship programme.
Morrison Ray Garth, Serah Pyawa and Tiani Tapo were selected after a comprehensive evaluation process.
The internship programme will introduce the students to real-life experiences working in environmental management on a world-class project.
The programme is in collaboration with the University of PNG and the Pacific Adventist University.
The selection process began over a year ago when representatives of Esso Highlands Ltd – operator of the PNG LNG project – presented to university students to assess their interest in the programme.
The three interns were initially working at the LNG plant site outside of Port Moresby.
Throughout the one-year programme, the students would be exposed to a wide range of developmental experiences including monitoring and verifying different environmental parameters as part of the project’s environmental social management plan (ESMP) and permit conditions, and undertaking field observation tasks.
They will work with a number of mentors within the project, including land and community affairs, safety, health and environment team, and plant site construction teams.
Esso Highlands senior project manager Yow-Yeen Lee, welcomed the students on board the team.
“They will be working among professionals and learning about our comprehensive safety, security, health and environmental standards,” he said.
“When they return to complete their course programme, they would have a good view of the practical aspects on the subjects they will be studying.
“As a company, we are committed to developing local talent and providing them with opportunities like this so they have the skills to get a head-start in their careers.”
