THERE are no boundaries when it comes to art, a local painter says.
Warren Peter, from a mix parentage of Milne Bay and Eastern Highlands, says that the connotation of a paint and brush to depict an artist does not resemble the history of art in Papua New Guinea.
Peter spoke to The National during the November craft market hosted at the Holiday Inn in Port Moresby over the weekend.
“Our ancestors did not have a paint or a brush during their time,” he said.
“Whenever they want to express themselves through art, they use primitive materials such as clay, mud, sticks and their traditional songs and dances.
“That is why it’s called primitive arts.
“You can use any tools to showcase your work as long as you have a mind for it. My paintings are symbolic of the various artistry of the 22 provinces in PNG.
“They are basically collections of art work representing the different provinces in our country.”
