Local condemns state of roads in Wewak
The National, Wednesday 05th December, 2012
POTHOLES on Wewak town roads are a major problem for motorists and commuters, East Sepik PMV Association president, Mathew Wangi says.
Wangi said many potholes on the speedways in town were forcing vehicle owners to spend more on spare parts, while pedestrians were always on the lookout for vehicles negotiating around potholes.
He said he was appalled at the situation and was calling on government intervention to repair the town road.
“Even the road to Wewak general hospital is at its worst stage, while another section of the same road to the airport is about 50cm deep,” he said.
“I have raised concern on the lack of traffic identification signs and crossings last week and it is very annoying to see that no government agency has come out publicly and accepted responsibility.”
He called on the Wewak town commission to liaise with the provincial works department to erect road signs and seal potholes.
