Local: Contract reputable firms

PROVEN contractors with a reputable track record should be hired to upgrade Lae roads, a leading businessman says.

Michael Pai, managing director of Power Boss PNG – one of the many businesses restricted by the poor road conditions, said most business houses were hopeful that the next K100 million  road grant was not given to the current contractors as the quality of their work had never been audited or approved by relevant authorities.

“I thank the O’Neill government for the K100 million but the PNG contractors are not using the money wisely and their work is not carried out properly,” he said. 

“The Department of Works, Central Supplies and Tenders Boards and relevant authorities must screen local contractors properly before awarding contracts.”
