A VIILAGER in Giluwe LLG in Tambul, Western Highlands, has thanked Giluwe Engineering for fixing two vandalised power poles.
The two poles at Ganpass had been chopped down by angry youths over the removal of a transformer in their area by PNG Power.
Kevin Nelson Maki, from the Kanimba tribe, commended firm owner James Steven for repairing the poles at a cost of K10,000.
“We have been without power for five months and suffering but what you have done will benefit us immensely,” he said.
“Your initiative to install the two poles will benefit 20,000 people in the Giluwe LLG.”
He described Steven as a man who had a passionate heart to help people.
“You are taking the responsibility of concerned authorities.
“That is a good example that you are setting for other elites in the area.”
Maki has urged the Karis youths to take ownership of the poles.
“Ownership simply means to look after it. Embrace such things as you will pave way for more to come, ‘he said
He said Tambul people were renowned suppliers of fresh vegetables and potatoes.
Maki said they needed vital services such as electricity and roads.
“These are the two vital services that are worth much in our lives,’’he said.
Meanwhile, Maki thanked local MP Benjamin Poponawa for bringing some services into the electorate. He said the people of Tambul had been neglected by past MPs in terms of government service delivery but Poponawa had paid redress to them by setting up a treasury office, a BSP branch and a police station that is in the plan.
