SKILLED craftsmen from Wandokai village in Sialum, Tewai-Siassi district of Morobe, are looking for ways to sell products made from local leather.
Spokesman Jeffery Philip, said 10 villagers travelled from Lae to showcase hand-made hats, bags and belts for the first time during the Morobe Show last weekend.
“We came together just to sell the hand-made products,” he said.
“We are in search for a steady market for the products.
“The two-day show is a great time to showcase, but with the skill we possess and the daily need for money, we cannot wait the whole year.
The good thing about our experience is that we are able to make products according to current trends.” Philip said the men in the village started off in 1996 with cowboy hats and then belts.
“We are now making bags, and other products as well, if there is a demand for it,” he said.
