THE Henganofi district health centre in Eastern Highlands is getting a major facelift, courtesy of local MP Robert Atiyafa who provided funds for the upgrading work.

Local man Jabo Keox, from Fagonofi village, in Henganofi, hailed Atiyafa after a visit to the health centre.

“Apart from the roads construction and upgrading going on with machines bought by MP Atiyafa, the health centre is also getting a quick facelift with construction of new buildings which will be installed with new facilities to ease a lot of hardships faced both by Health workers, patients, public and relevant stakeholders,” Keox said.

He said that health workers had been operating out of the very old buildings, some of which were built during colonial administration.

He added that the population had tripled since independence and more people from the Kafetina, Fayantina and Dunantina local level government areas were flocking in to get health services.

“This has exerted so much pressure and burden on scarce medical supplies, accommodation in wards, equipment and manpower,” Keox said.

“Atiyafa has stepped in at the right time and is doing a very good job to help his people. It shows that sufficient funds have been pumped in so the day to day operation of the health centre will be enhanced to a next level with the boost from Atiyafa’s support.”

He said the MP also funded new high school project with construction underway at Kuru, in the Fayantina LLG, to cater for students coming from remote areas and ease the burden on enrolments at Henganofi High School.
