THE Kokopo Vunamami urban local level government is struggling due to the delay in government grants, Kokopo city manager Freddy Lemeki says.
However, he said the LLG was currently able to ensure government services reached the people.
Lemeki said this was made possible through internal revenues.
He was speaking during a recent presentation of cheques to various water related projects in Kokopo.
“We are struggling because we have not received our government grants, but we are lucky that we are raising our internal revenue which is helping us to ensure our people receive basic services,” he said.
Lemeki also clarified that the Kokopo District Development Authority was also now referred to as Kokopo City Authority.
He said this has brought challenges for the LLG, in pursuit of developing Kokopo to a city.
“Most officers challenged to perform to their best. We have two responsibilities; the urban sector and the rural sector. We have to ensure that Kokopo town is clean, beautiful and peaceful every day,” he said.
