Local: We should all get same deal
The National, Wednesday 22nd Febuary 2012
YALU leader Benson Nablu has raised concerns on the awarding of 20% of state equity in PNG Forest Product to Bulolo district, saying all resource owners whose land is being utilised by state-owned enterprises should be given the same deal to douse predicted implications.
Nablu questioned the award because of the political alignment of former PNG party leader Sir Mekere Morauta, party leader Belden Namah and Bulolo MP Sam Basil as deputy party leader.
He said such a decision was of a political nature and had nothing to do with the National Executive Council.
He questioned why they could not reveal the monetary value of the stated 20%, if it was a free arrangement or it would have some costs on the parties involved and which body or bodies would benefit from it.
Nablu described the implications as huge as other resource owners in the same situation where SOEs were using their resources would also want their share all around the country.
“I call on all resource owners to demand their share from SOEs.”
“I call on Lae MP Bart Philemon and Huon Gulf MP Sasa Zibe to demand 20% for the people in Morobe or I will mobilise the Ahi people to demand our share,” he said.
Vowing to mobilize the Ahi people, of which the Yalu is part of, Nablu said Ahi people should benefit from similar arrangements from the states equity in PNG Power, Water PNG and PNG Ports Corporation, as the Ahi people owned the land on which these state-owned enterprises operate in Lae city.
