GAZELLE MP Malakai Tabar has called on his people in the district to promote a savings culture in their homes.
He made the call on Tuesday in Kerevat when officiating at the opening of Bank South Pacific Kerevat sub branch.
“Please do not overwork your family by exhausting your earnings on unnecessary items and try to save some of that earning,” Tabar said.
“As you save, little by little everytime you earn, you will realise during your rainy day that you can still survive.
“This is a responsibility that goes with having a family, having children that go to school and knowing that we are part of a clan and kinship within our communities to support and stand with relatives when they truly need our help.”
He said banking institutions and services have been in PNG for decades however people are blinded by “colour and taste” and continue to spend more without saving and being responsible.
He added that the system of sustenance and economic operations has been wrongly defined and understood by many people in the country.
“This is a system where we repeat; cultivate, harvest, we sell, and spend the money within a few days.
“We try as much as possible to visit every shop down the road and we buy anything and everything. We continue to forget to save, which is the most important part of the system,” he said.
