Locals get new bridge
PEOPLE of Kadaulung-Nengmutka ward in East New Britain (ENB) now have access to a bridge.
Thanks to oil palm company Tzen Niugini for making this possible with the funding of the construction of the 50m bridge.
East New Britain Governor Nakikus Konga, Health Minister and Gazelle MP Jelta Wong, Pomio MP Elias Kapavore with other administration staff from both Pomio and Gazelle districts witnessed the opening of the Nengmutka Bridge in the Kadaulung one and two wards of Inland Baining local level government (LLG), Gazelle district, on Saturday.
Kadaulung two ward member Eremas Boas said people in the area had been suffering without basic services such as roads and bridges for the past 48 years and the bridge was a valuable state asset.
Boas said Kadaulung-Nengmutka ward was situated on the border of two LLGs – Sinivit in Pomio district and Inland Baining in Gazelle.
He said the opening of the new bridge would now link the two LLGs.
Boas said despite being in the Gazelle district, most of the services they accessed were in Pomio.
He called on MPs of both electorates to work together to ensure development of the LLGs.
Boas also thanked Tzen Niugini chief executive EK Tan for contributing to the development of the province.
Civil engineering firm Esteem Ltd designed and built the bridge in just over 10 weeks at a cost of K2.4 million.
