THE Kulelikum, Markapita and Amahup communities in the Albiges-Mamblep local level government of Maprik district, East Sepik, have offered their land for the development of the new proposed high school.
Kulelikum ward councillor Salot Lenis said for more than 20 years, people in the area have been denied basic government services, such as health, education and road infrastructure.
“My communities are willing to give their land for the development for the proposed high school.”
Lenis said students from their area had been facing problems attending other secondary and high schools in the district, as well as parents having difficulties visiting their children at the schools.
“We are very thankful to our MP John Simon for initiating the development of new high school and choosing these three communities as proposed sites. We will support our MP to see this project off the ground,” Lenis said.
According to Simon’s education officer James Gilikimbi, the Kulelikum, Markapita and Amahup communities have offered estimated 50 hectares of land for the development of the new high school.
Gilikimbi said Simon was initiating three new proposed high schools for four LLGs – one high school for Albiges-Mamblep and Maprik-Wora, while Yamil-Tamaui and Bumbita-Muhian will have one each.
“So far we have visited nine different sites within the four LLGs,” Gilikimbi said.
Under the district services improvement programme, through its education sector, Simon has allocated K100,000 for the preparation and ground work of the establishment of the proposed high school.
Simon initiated the establishment of the proposed new high schools to cater for Grades 7 and 8 because soon government will do away with the grades in primary schools.
