A TOTAL of 48 people in Porgera, Enga have received certificates on Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) after attending a two weeks training on managing funds and business start-ups.
The two weeks training was an initiative of Porgera Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI).
The graduation took place on Friday witnessed by staff from the agriculture and livestock and the representative from the Porgera Joint Venture (PJV).
PCCI President Nickson Pakea, who initiated the training with the support from the PJV, said funds were made available through its organisation Revolving Fund Facility (RFF) to stage the training.
“Our people have been missing out on this for almost 30-years and I want to thank PJV for coming to the aid to support them with such projects.
“We need to start realising our potential and put into practise what is taught to us so that can help our future,” Pakea said.
He encouraged the graduands to be pro-active and leaders in the community by taking part in important and benefiting activities with the training gained.
He said PCCI had more than 297 groups with a membership of 12,000 and was likely to increase through its RFF programme.
Manager of Restoring Justice Initiative Association Pat Niuni praised Pakea and the PCCI for helping to equip the mindsets of the people to keep them busy and maintain law and order in Porgera.
Niuni said law and order in Porgera was of great concern and such initiatives would really change the people.
He said with such programmes he believed youths would come to know their potential and change to become better citizens.
