THE Kokopo-Vunamami urban local level government (KVULLG), under the leadership of the Kokopo city mayor Benjamin Mesmin Murliu, raised more than K13,000 last week for its Australia bushfire appeal.
A wheelbarrow push started at Baliora market with the support from the locals of Baliora, Giregire and Gunanba community to raise funds for the East New Britain for Australian Bushfire Appeal 2020.
When presenting the money raised to the appeal’s working committee at the NBC studios complex last Saturday, Murliu thanked everyone who had contributed and participated in the fundraising drive.
Murliu said wards under the KVULLG would also contribute towards the appeal.
Committee chairman and deputy administrator for corporate, LLG and district services, Nicholas Larme received the money and thanked Murliu and his staff for their initiative.
Larme said the other planned fundraising concert for Gazelle was deferred to a later date due to bad weather.
He said a planned wheelbarrow push and walkathon for the Sinivit LLG was also called off because of heavy rain last Saturday.
Local business owners John and Dame Sandra Lau of Tropicana Ltddonated K10,000 to the appeal.
The deadline for donations is Feb 14.
Other fundraising activities include a barbaque at Ralum Country Club including a fundraising dance at the Gazelle International Hotel.
