TWENTY people in Bougainville now have a better understanding of how mobile phones can be used effectively in community learning programmes.
This follows the completion of a workshop on mobile telephone community learning that ended last Thursday.
The workshop, which began last   Monday, was sponsored by the Commonwealth of Learning and facilitated by the Solomons-based Community Learning with media programme specialist David Leeming.
He said the workshop was designed to get participants thinking about how mobile phones could be used effectively to support learning in the context of community programmes.
As part of their practical sessions, participants decided on trialling the use of mobile phones to immediately update listeners of local radio station New Dawn FM on the progress of the counting in the North Bougainville by-election.
The participants included representatives from World Vision, Care International and Bougainville Community Development division.
