Locals warned to respect schools
THE Naringel Primary School in the Los Negros local level government of Manus was closed for two days after drunken youths entered the premises and threatened and insulted the teaching staff and their families recently, police say.
The partial shutdown of the school was to allow the school board of management and division of education to convene a meeting to deliberate on the issue.
Manus police commander Chief Insp David Yapu warned local communities on the island province to respect schools and its staff following the Naringel incident.
Chief Insp Yapu said police arrested four youths and locked them up.
He stressed to Manus people to “respect the school and the teachers and allow the education of the students to continue smoothly until the end of the year.”
