PEOPLE from the six wards in the Raluana LLG of Kokopo, East New Britain, are now free to move around after a lockdown was lifted yesterday.
The six wards of Raluana, Barovon, Lalakua, Bitabaur, Vunatagia and Vunamurmur went into lockdown on April 7 after a woman in the area tested positive for Covid-19.
East New Britain state of emergency controller and provincial administrator Wilson Matava in a circular said people in those wards were now free to move in and out.
But Matava urged people to avoid unnecessary travel and continue to practise social distancing.
“In the event that we have positive cases, contingency plans are in place to isolate individuals or individual households rather than communities,” Matava said.
Matava said the initial lockdown of the six wards was necessary to cut Covid-19 transmission and allow medical surveillance and rapid response teams to investigate, test and contain the case.
