NEW Ireland’s Jemimah Logarawa intends to take the Sir John Guise Stadium Indoor Complex by storm when she makes her first appearance at next week’s national amateur boxing championships.
The 23-year-old is the only woman representing New Ireland in the welterweight (69kg) division.
Logawara is raring to go after missing out on the national titles in Bougainville in 2017.
This will be her first national fight and the Tigak native, from Kavieng, said: “I am ready and looking forward for the fight.
“I am burning inside. I can’t wait to be in the ring. I will be bitter and unfriendly in the ring.”
Logawara said she took up the sport out of frustration and anger because of her parents’ separation.
“I lived with relatives after my parents got separated and I did not find much of that love given to me,” she said. “I miss the love and affection of my parents. So out of frustration, I took up boxing to be strong.
“I compete in ball games and athletics but I chose boxing to become stronger.”
Team New Ireland coach Francis Passingan hailed Logarawa as a woman of strength and confidence.
“Jemimah unleashes her strength when she is training among her male teammates,” he said.
“She has shown commitment and dedication in our training sessions and I have no doubt that she will make the team proud by winning gold for us.”
The championships start on Monday and end on Dec 13.
