Loggers begin work without contract

National, Normal

LANDOWNERS of Sambakau village, outside Wewak, are questioning the operation of a logging company that recently moved into the area to harvest logs.
The landowners said they did not sign any consent forms for such activity to occur on their land.
They said the logging activity had destroyed their environment.
In the process of building roads, many trees had been cut down.
They said this violated their sacred areas which should have been conserved for future generations.
The landowners said they were working  to get a National Court order to be served on the company preventing it from conducting business on their land.
