STAFF of National Information and Communications Technology Authority (Nicta) have been told to look after their new office which cost K21 million to build.
Information Communications Technology Minister Timothy Masiu said taking up office space in the new “Punaha ICT Haus” should be a moral boost for staff.
“Take good care of the space and the premises you occupy,” he said during the opening on Friday. “Those of you who are here, please look after this building.
“Make sure it is well looked after because that is your identity and that is your face.
“Remember, you are a custodian of this office for those working now and those who will join in the future.”
Nicta chief executive Charles Punaha, while providing an overview of the new office building, said the project design was approved in 2016, work on the building started the following year and was completed in July.
Punaha said it would house all the five departments including office of the board, chief executive officer, corporate service department, consumer and international affairs, licencing and resource planning and licencing and enforcement.
“Within this complex at the back, we also have our IT branch, we also house the computer emergency response team that monitors any cyber security attacks that may be happening and attacking Papua New Guinea,”he said.
Punaha said the complex would also house the national cyber security centre.
“The national cyber security centre is currently in town and we are hoping that construction for that project will start next year.”
