Looking north and SMEs

Letters

THERE has been a vast improvement in the development of the country during the past 15 to 20 years.
We have seen Papua New Guineans venturing into different businesses, developmental projects and jobs.
People have come to realise the reality of life and are moving forward with what they have.
However, our people can grow only if we have the right policies and laws to help those in business.
I commend the government for creating avenues for people to venture into SMEs.
Unfortunately, our look-north policy is destroying the chances of our people getting into business.
For instance, the Stret Pasin Stoa programme was successful because there was no competition from foreigners. But now, because of the look-north policy of the government, the situation has changed from bad to worse. You hardly see Stret Pasin Stoa schemes today.
The look-north policy needs to be re-looked at so that it does not have a negative effect on the SME programme.
Back to you Government. We can do it.
