SOLDIERS operating at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Kiunga in Western now have access to 25 new mattresses.

This was made possible last week by Kiunga town Lord Mayor Wilfred Whan as part of the town’s community service.

“PNGDF FOB is located in the boundaries of Kiunga town and that is why it is vital that we donate such bedding to the soldiers. They are a basic need in every PNGDF Barracks,” Whan said.

FOB normally houses the First Royal Pacific Island Regimental (RPIR) deployed soldiers whose sole responsibility is to patrol and guard the PNG Indonesian border.

PNGDF FOB officer in command Capt. Christopher Kalvale said that they were very thankful for the donation and hoped to foster more healthy public relationship with the surrounding communities.

A small presentation ceremony took place at Kiunga in the lord mayor’s office.
