Loss is wake-up call for PNG soccer
The National, Tuesday July 7th, 2015
THE demise of the PNG U23 Men’s team over the weekend is a wake-up call for PNG Soccer.
I hold the PNG Football Association and its executives responsible.
The poor standard of football displayed on the field is a clear sign future of PNG football is questionable.
These young men played with allot of heart and pride but failed to match our opponents with skill and structure.
I call for and demand an immediate health check of PNG football.
We need to assess our junior programs.
Are they in existence; is it effective.
Many are non-existent around the country with little or no support.
We need to support and grow our amateur competition.
NSL competition is poorly managed 9 years on and it has not reach further heights from its inception in 2006.
In house PNGFA executive politics need to be addressed and put to bed.
I know many past and present players, soccer enthusiast support my comments.
I commend our U23 team for trying if it was not for the pride of playing at home and for PNG they would have lost by a greater margin in both games.
