Lumae’s passion for flowers is good for business

Business

Floriculturist mother Pero Lumae sells exotic flower seedlings and cuttings at Boroko Market in Port Moresby.
Her flowers are transported all the way from Goroka to Port Moresby for sale.
“Floriculture business is very profitable and interesting,” Lumae says.
“We travel to so many places to display and sell our flowers.
“During flower competition and shows, we usually get K6000 to K7000 from our sales.
“This is when competition is low, but when the competition is high we get K4000 to K5000.
“All of the profit that I gain from my flower sales and decorations is donated to churches as a charitable offering, and some is kept by myself to support my family.”
Lumae is very eager and passionate about flowers and flower decoration.
She has learnt a lot of things and has travelled to other places to sell her flowers and make decorations.
“Because of my involvement in floriculture business and my flowers, I have travelled to many places,” Lumae said.
“I am very eager and passionate about flowers and decorations, therefore, God has seen my hunger and satisfied it.
“We floriculture mother called flowers as ‘sleeping lions’ because through flowers we have travelled to so many places and make income.”
Lumae is also very creative and handy in decorating for special occasions such as weddings, funerals and conferences.
This is her sixth year in the floriculture business.
