CHIEF Secretary Isaac Lupari has called on all Papua New Guineans to work together at a time of low global commodity prices.

He said it must be appreciated there was “unprecedented change in the country” since 2011 when Prime Minister Peter O’Neill assumed office that would set a solid foundation for the future.

“That’s because of this Government’s policy interventions in the areas of education, health, infrastructure and empowering people through SMEs,” Lupari said.

“These have been adequately funded by Government since 2011.

“These are key investments aimed at enhancing the lives of our people.

“We are making sure that we create economic growth with an environment conducive for people to come and invest in this country.

“Countries like PNG are dependent on commodities.”

Lupari said this was why it was important for everyone to work together under the leadership of O’Neill.

“What we need to do is work together,” he said.

“That includes everybody; both sides of the House in Parliament, leaders at all levels, villages, LLGs, provincial governments right up to national level and the bureaucracy.”

Lupari said the Government was creating the right economic climate for private sector growth, which would attract foreign investments that were critical for the economy.

“It is important that we do not talk down our country which is happening frequently by some of our leaders and so-called critics,” he said.

“Those who continue talk down our country should know that your action will stop foreign investments in the country. You should be careful in what you say.

“It is early to talk about fiscal down turn and people should get their facts before speculating in the media,” he said.
