Lutherans in Morobe celebrate 100 years

PEOPLE in Kabwum, Morobe, will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the arrival of Lutheran missionaries, who established the church on Aug 10, 1919, this month.
The main celebration will be on Monday at Indagen in Komba local level government.
Lae city circuit Busu parish in Yabem of the Evangelical Lutheran of Papua New Guinea (ELCPNG) celebrated the anniversary over the weekend under the theme “What you sow in life” a reference to Galatians 6: 1-10.
ELCPNG treasurer Noreo Keindip said when the missionaries first came to their village on Aug 10, 1919, their forefathers and fathers accepted them and the Word of God.
Keindep described how the Gospel was received then as Usi Naa (Word of God in my heart) when their forefathers came into contact with the missionaries for the first time.
“When the word first fell on our soil, our forefathers gave up sorcery and other beliefs totally and followed the what the Gospel said with their hearts and spread its message to others as well,” he said.
