THE Ukata Lutheran Christians congregation held a special thanksgiving event last Sunday to support the 19th National Women’s Conference which is set to be hosted in Kabwum, Morobe, later this year.
The thanksgiving celebration was held at the Somba Lutheran church grounds in Lae.
The conference will be held at Kabwum High School from Sept 26 to Oct 1.
Ukata women from three church zones led the celebration.
Also at the gathering were representatives from three institutions – Balob Teachers College, Martin Luther Seminary (MLS) and Bugandi Secondary School – who took part in the programme.
MLS lecturer and pastor Panpan Gesa delivered a sermon in which he urged Christians to be humble and practice their faith to allow blessings to come into their lives.
Pr Gesa said supporting the women’s conference was a worthwhile endeavour and one that would foster understanding and appreciation for women.
Former National Court judge Don Sawong was among those who attended the celebration.
Sawong said such programmes promoted unity and fellowship among church members.
Morobe government representative James Imbong said the administration of Governor Ginson Saonu would support the conference with K500,000.
Ukata circuit president Rev Bayuso Basangu said the conference would host the district’s 19 church circuits as well as 56 circuits around the country.
