Macdonald has change of heart

NENE Macdonald has declared he will represent Papua New Guinea again, despite threatening to boycott the Kumuls jersey after being assaulted in Port Moresby a month ago.
The North Queensland recruit had just starred for PNG in a 32-22 victory over the England Knights, and he was out with teammates celebrating in a bar when he was allegedly hit over the head with a glass bottle.
The culprit allegedly fled the bar after the incident and Macdonald took to Facebook to vent his anger at the assault.
“I will never put a PNG Kumuls jersey on again till (sic) the guy that smashed a bottle over my head last night in Lamana (Hotel) is found and dealt with,” a livid Macdonald wrote.
The incident angered the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League so much, the association requested the nation’s police minister and his department investigate the assault and catch the culprit. Macdonald revealed to foxsports.com.au the alleged offender had been caught and the matter is being dealt with in PNG.
“It was sort of random, I don’t know. It’s sorted now, the cops got him,” Macdonald said yesterday, a month after the alleged assault took place.
“He got away but it’s good they’ve got him now. They messaged me and said it’s all getting sorted so we’ll see what happens with that.”
And with the offender being dealt with, Macdonald has backflipped on his threat to boycott the Kumuls from now on.
The former St George Illawarra winger has played nine tests for PNG and is one of the country’s best recognised and most accomplished players in the NRL.
“At the time I was pretty dirty, as anyone would be,” he said.
“Now I’m over it but at the time I was angry he got away. Now it’s all sorted. Obviously, I love playing for my country, as everyone does.”
Macdonald had a delayed off-season due to his representative commitments with PNG, but managed to get away for a holiday to America and Bali after starring for the Kumuls.
He returned home to spend time with his mother and brothers in Cairns, before settling in Townsville to begin life with the Cowboys.
