Machines move in as effort made to clear roads

Local road construction companies in Enga have moved machinery into place to clear roads damaged by the earthquake in February.
Kandep MP and Minister for Civil Aviation Alfred Luke Manase visited the electorate last week to inspect the work.
“The district administration will move into the affected areas in the next couple of weeks after all roads had been upgraded and improved,” Manase said.
He said work at the Laigaim Junction-to-Kandep Station was progressing well, while clearing and drainage work was going on at a 16-kilometre stretch at Yapun-Longap.
“Tall grasses were cut down along the Mariant-to-Kambia loop road access to make way for earthworks machines to move in to upgrade the road,” he saids.
“The road section to Walupim Primary School, sub-health centre and Lutheran mission station were upgraded and vehicles were moving through.”
Manase said locals were engaged to clear bushes for the construction of drains and to allow the contractors to do repairs and gravelwork.
He said the work was being done under the the earthquake emergency and restoration programme of the national Government.
“Relief supplies had been airlifted to the most affected areas of the district in the past three weeks while work on the road was maintained to also enable road access to deliver other essential services such as health and education.
