THE Madang Rugby Football Union will kick off the 2012 Papua New Guinea 7s Circuit on July 27-28 in Madang.
Tournament director Stephen Komes said he expected 16 to 24 teams to be part of the event.
National champions Kimbe Rebels are expected in Madang along with regular New Guinea Islands’ circuit travellers East New Britain Kaias, Bougainville Black Orchid and Kavieng.
Sides from Morobe are expected to easily enter the tournament, as well as those from Goroka, Eastern Highlands Province.
Teams from Port Moresby are yet to confirm attendance.
Komes said the cup prize money was set at K10,000 and other categories would be finalised after sponsorships were confirmed.
The province’s rugby sevens team received a full set of uniforms from Sigma Construction.
Managing director Sigi Beschel presented the set to MARFU president, Geoffrey Bai.
Sigma Construction has been the major sponsor for MadGauns for the 2011-12 season, while Ela Enterprises Ltd, Niugini Klab, Islands Petroleum Mobil, CADU, Atimed Ltd and EuropCar PNG are sleeve and support sponsors.
Komes appealed to the business community in Madang to get behind the MARFU and support its promotion of rugby union, as well the youth who play the game.
Teams intending to take part will have to pay a registration fee of K500.
