TEAM Madang registered their first gold medal at the 4th PNG Games in the team event of the men’s dart competition, defeating reigning champions Manus 3-2 in the final at Sports Inn yesterday.
Madang’s tailender Herman Mamos made sure to check out for his province leading his men for a victory to collect the first gold medal in the team event.
Manus were favourites going into the final after defeating New Ireland in their playoffs, but failed to maintain their winning run, when the guys from beautiful Madang stamped their authority in front of their governor, Sir Arnold Amet.
The 2007 darts team event champions from Manus settled for the silver, while the men from Morobe grabbed the bronze thrashing Team New Ireland 3-0.
Meanwhile, NCD women were too good in the women’s team event, retaining the gold medal defeating Team Manus 3-0.
Team Southern Highlands picked up the bronze medal, defeating the East New Britain ladies 3-0.
The official presentation for the medal awards will be made at midday today.
The men’s doubles and women’s singles events will start this morning followed by mix and singles events later during the day.
Eighteen provinces are competing in the darts competition both in men and women’s divisions.
