Madang celebrate independence in style

Momase, Normal

THE beautiful township of Madang celebrated the 35th independence anniversary in style.
Though the main event was staged at Laiwaden Oval with Madang Governor Sir Arnold Amet being the guest of honour, the infamous Haus Tumbuna that accommodates the traditional artifacts from Madang stole the three-day show, starting from Sept 16-18.
Once the official gathering at Laiwaden Oval was over, the crowd moved across to the Haus Tumbuna.
Unfortunately, the aging wooden wall surrounding the Haus Tumbuna could not withstand the force of the crowd.
With the gate fee going at K1 for children and K2 for adults, the entertainment of the day compelled every body to enter.
Traditional groups from Bilbil and bamboo band group from Jais Aben up the North Coast road made the show full with lots of fun.
School children also participated.
Ramu NiCo joined the people of Madang in celebrating the day and also used the opportunity to carry out awareness on DSTP and other Ramu NiCo project impacts.
