IT is welcome news that Madang Governor Peter Yama is opening up the Banu Bundi Highway linking Kundiawa-Gembogl in Chimbu.
This, in itself, is not only a significant milestone in the history of our people living along this stretch of the road, but is a show of class by a concerned leader who hovers above the rest in getting things done to help his people.
The initial down payment of K4 million for the contractor to immediately begin work is a dream come true for these long-neglected people.
Successive provincial governments on both sides of the border have turned a blind eye on this vital link and, as a result, the people have suffered quietly for years in absolute isolation.
The governor’s intervention for our people is timely and in the right direction and we, as a people, would like to reassure the governor of our undivided support.
The days of supplies shipped through the Mondia pass on the back of human mules will be a thing of the past as we anticipate this new road infrastructure development to place our people on equal footing with the rest of PNG and the world.
