I READ with interest Paul Kamatah’s viewpoint, “Time to rid of Madang of inefficient teachers” (July 2).

While Paul is correct is pinpointing Kusbau Primary School, there are other schools in the province having the same problem.

The problem with Education in Madang is bigger. Kusbau’s case is only one of them. In my opinion, there needs to be a complete overhaul in the people managing the education system in Madang. Many schools have closed because of problems in the school, many teachers are still off the pay, and schools are used as a bank /donor agency for the education officials.

I hope the NEC can confirm the appointment of the new provincial administrator, who should completely move out these officers who have been in the systems and have failed the system for more than two decades.  They have nothing new to offer.

They sleep in the education office and the corridors of the office smells like a public toilet. The corridors of the office are so dark and filthy and produce an odor that will make you sick.

Teachers are never served, and each time you want to see an official, he has other commitments.

How can education in Madang prosper when you two decades old officers managing the systems whose ideas to manage is off a decade past.

In my view, there should be a complete overhaul for the benefit of the schools in the province so that schools like Kusbau can be managed properly.
