THE Madang provincial government has bought 12 new vehicles for K1.4 million to cut down on the cost of hiring vehicles.

Government sources estimated the cost of hiring vehicles at about K2 million annually.

The provincial administration grant was used to buy the vehicles.

Ela Motors sales manager Bruce Pyagatai said the provincial government bought two Hilux vehicles, one Prado and nine 10-seater Toyota Landcruisers.

“Their timing to buy these vehicles was perfect as it coincided with Ela Motors’ 50th anniversary when everything was on special between March and April,” Pyagatai said.

He said 23 vehicles were bought in that period. Eleven were for the Madang police, bought by Governor Jim Kas from the provincial services improvement programme (PSIP) funds and would be handed over in Ramu next week.

Usino-Bundi district administrator Jimmy Uguro said new police uniforms costing K101,000 were done by Lagear Australia.
