Madang govt hailed for subsidising cocoa

Letters

I COMMEND the Madang government’s decision and action to subsidise the copra price in the province.
The allocation of funds to a copra buyer Linguan & Co is in order.
It is normal for any government to intervene and stimulate the economy.
The injection of this price support is good for the growers and the industry.
On Karkar Island, it actually broke the monopoly that existed there for many years.
There is now competition on the island and growers are happy.
With this initiative, growers have a lot of freedom to choose where to sell their products.
This is a government initiative consistent with its “Go rural” policy.
It also created jobs.
